Building Futures Beyond Construction: Allen-Norris Participates in ToolFest Workforce Development Event

At Allen-Norris Permitting & Inspections (ANPI), our work extends beyond permits, inspections, and construction consulting. We believe that one of the most important investments we can make is investing in the next generation.

Recently, our team participated in ToolFest, a workforce development event designed to expose students and young adults to careers within the construction, development, engineering, and skilled trades industries. The event brought together industry professionals, community organizations, contractors, and educators to provide hands-on learning experiences and meaningful career exploration opportunities.

Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to visit our exhibit and learn about the many professions that contribute to the development of our communities. While many people are familiar with construction workers and contractors, few realize the extensive network of professionals working behind the scenes to make projects successful.

Students explored careers including:

  • Permit Expediting and Regulatory Consulting
  • Building Inspections and Code Compliance
  • Architecture and Engineering
  • Construction Management
  • Sustainability and LEED Consulting
  • Environmental Inspections
  • Project Planning and Development
  • Skilled Trades and Specialty Construction

Our team shared real construction plans, discussed active projects, demonstrated field technology, and answered questions about career pathways, educational requirements, and industry opportunities.

What made the experience particularly meaningful was the level of engagement from the students. They were curious, enthusiastic, and eager to understand how buildings are designed, approved, constructed, and maintained. Many students expressed interest in careers they had never previously considered.

As a minority-owned and woman-owned business, ANPI recognizes the importance of representation and mentorship within the construction industry. Exposure to professionals from diverse backgrounds can help students envision themselves in roles they may not have previously thought possible.

Community service and workforce development have always been important components of our mission. By participating in events like ToolFest and supporting summer youth employment initiatives, we hope to help create a stronger, more inclusive future workforce while encouraging young people to pursue rewarding careers that positively impact their communities.

The construction industry continues to evolve, creating opportunities in technology, sustainability, project management, regulatory compliance, inspections, and design. Today's students are tomorrow's builders, inspectors, engineers, architects, and business leaders.

We are grateful to ToolFest for providing a platform that connects young people with industry professionals and helps open doors to future opportunities.

At Allen-Norris Permitting & Inspections, we are proud to build more than projects.

We are proud to help build futures.

The Construction Labor Crisis — Why It Matters The construction industry is feeling the pinch. With 88% of contractors reporting trouble finding skilled workers and nearly a quarter of the industry’s workforce turning over each year, project schedules, budgets, and growth plans are under real pressure. Whether you’re a developer, project manager, or trade pro, you’ve probably seen it first-hand: jobs are taking longer to fill, good people are harder to keep, and the work keeps stacking up. But here’s the thing—challenges breed innovation. At Allen-Norris Permitting and Inspections, we believe tech and talent development can help construction management not just survive this wave, but find new ways to thrive.
